Woman survives arson attack

Provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, said the suspect, who is believed to be the woman’s boyfriend, is on the run.

A TWENTY-NINE year-old woman from the Midlands’ Zhombe area is nursing serious burns after surviving an arson attack.

Provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, said the suspect, who is believed to be the woman’s boyfriend, is on the run.

The incident occurred on June16 at night.

“Nyasha Chaza (29) of Samambwa village, Empress in Zhombe went to his alleged girlfriend Phumuzile Kufaulele’s (29) residence at Empress business centre, Zhombe and found her already retired to bed,” Mahoko said.

“The two had been seen earlier during the day arguing, with Chaza threatening to harm Kufaulele.

“Chaza went on to pour petrol on the door and lit a fire at the door. In an effort to open the door Kufaulele was seriously burnt.”

Mahoko said Kufaulele was rescued by her neighbour, who put off the fire before opening the door. “Kufaulele was rushed to Kadoma Hospital where she is admitted in a serious condition,” he said.

“We are calling for information that may lead to the arrest of the suspect Chaza.”

Mahoko appealed to members of the public to solve disputes or differences amicably by engaging a third party.
