Border jumper robbed of US$40

Gift Chagonda (29) appeared at the Plumtree magistrates courts before magistrate Joshua Nembaware who remanded him to tomorrow for trial.

A Plumtree-based man is in trouble after he allegedly robbed a border jumper of her US$40 at Plumtree Border Post.

Gift Chagonda (29) appeared at the Plumtree magistrates courts before magistrate Joshua Nembaware who remanded him to tomorrow for trial.

Prosecutor Selestine Madziwa  alleged that on March18, Ruvimbo Murambadoro met the suspect along Ramagkwebana River where she intended to illegally cross into Zimbabwe.

The suspect offered to help her cross if he pays him US$20 and she agreed.

Along the way, Chagonda demanded more cash saying he wanted to bribe soldiers to get free passage.

The complainant said she did not have money.

An angry Chagonda grabbed Murambadoro’s bag containing US$40 and fled.

Upon entering Zimbabwe, Murambadoro filed a police report leading to Chagonda’s arrest.
