QUEENSPARK West residents are up in arms with the Bulawayo City Council (BCC) over the local authority's decision to demolish their houses because of sewage problems.
A resident who declined to be named told Southern Eye that they are not going to allow the local authority to destroy their properties because of some houses that were recently built on a manhole.
A message that was sent on the residents' WhatsApp group indicated that some newly-constructed houses were going to be demolished because they were wrongly sited.
“We do not have a mainline so why do they want to destroy our houses? We are waiting for them to come because we are not going to allow them to bring down our houses. We have been here since the 1970s and 1980s and we know which areas are affected by the sewage mostly,” said the resident.
“We are not going to allow them to demolish our houses because we are now old, where will we find money to construct new houses."
Ward 2 councillor, Edwin Moyo, said he was not aware of the developments.
“That has not reached me, l am going to research further, sewage challenges involving blockages have been there for a long time. I have engaged contractors who are clearing up the sewer system,” Moyo said.
