Bulawayo community radio initiative, Youth FM, has urged the government to speed up amendments to the Broadcasting Act of Zimbabwe to open up the airwaves for more stations in the region.
In his post cabinet briefing recently, Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services ,minister, Jenfan Muswere said the amendment will broaden Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation's revenue.
Youth FM executive director, Philani Ncube, said Matabeleland needed more community radio initiatives to tell local stories.
"We are asking the ministry to speed up the process as we are eagerly waiting to see these amendments to allow more people to submit their applications to get broadcasting licenses,” Ncube said.
“Let the process be a reality but not mere talk.
“We would be very glad to see this draft bill, as for now it is nowhere to be seen.”
For years, Zimbabwe relied on the state-owned ZBC for television and radio programming.
