A BEITBRIDGE man has been jailed for nine months for allegedly stealing a Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPCS) boer goat.
Wellington Mukonde (39) was convicted on his own plea of guilty of stocktheft by a Beitbridge Magistrate on Monday.
The court also established that Mukonde had a suspended sentence owing to a previous criminal record.
He will serve a year in prison after his three-month suspended sentence was reinstated.
The court was told that on May 26, an inmate was assigned the task of herding 135 goats in the Dulibadzimu grazing area.
At around 4pm, the inmate discovered that one boer goat was missing.
It is the State case that he reported the matter to a ZPCS official.
On May 27, a ZPCS officer saw Mukonde selling goat meat and he failed to give a satisfactory explanation leading to his arrest.
