Police nab Singaporean businessman over cash, drugs stash

Police have arrested Singaporean businessman Mark Yong Khong Yoong, after he was allegedly found in possession of a yet-to-be quantified stash of cash, gold and dagga.

HARARE, March 16 (NewsDay Live) – Police have arrested Singaporean businessman Mark Yong Khong Yoong after he was allegedly found in possession of a yet-to-be quantified stash of cash, gold and dagga.

National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the arrest of the foreign national, who is facing charges of money laundering and possession of drugs.

However, Nyathi said more details would be released later today.

According to sources, Yoong was arrested at a tollgate while travelling from Bulawayo, where authorities reportedly discovered cash, dagga and gold in his possession.

Sources said Yoong is currently being held at the CID headquarters in Harare.

Reports indicate that Yoong is a Singaporean businessman, seasoned gambler and investor linked to several offshore companies and gaming interests.

He is also known for high-stakes gambling and was involved in a 2021 Singapore High Court case concerning debts owed to an Australian casino.
