THE Tobacco Industry Marketing Board (TIMB) has appointed Emmanuel Matsvaire chief executive officer with effect from June 10.
Matsvaire has been TIMB’s acting chief executive officer since the suspension of then substantive head, Meanwell Gudu, in 2022.
“Emmanuel is a results-driven executive with over 16 years’ experience in the tobacco industry, bringing expertise in strategic agriculture management, sector planning and industry transformation,” the statement said.
TIMB board chairperson Pat Devenish confirmed the appointment yesterday.
“Of course, the statement is fully genuine. It was approved by the Ministry of Agriculture. The President has also endorsed the appointment,” he said.
“We are very happy to have a substantive CEO appointed and look forward to his contribution to the organisation in a substantive rather than acting capacity.”
Zimbabwe Tobacco Farmers and Growers Association president George Seremwe applauded Matsvaire’s appointment, saying it adds value to TIMB.
“We applaud the government decision to appoint Matsvaire to the substantive post as it will see the organisation going ahead with its plans of late. Under Matsvaire, there has been confidence restoration in the tobacco sector,” he said.
