Lard Engineering managing director Willard Chirunga

IN a modern world where Information Communication and Technologies (ICTs) is taking centre stage, a young and dynamic engineering company is revolutionising the industry with innovative solutions and unparalleled expertise.

The Harare company, Lard Engineering, founded on the principles of creativity, has rapidly emerged as a trailblazer in the Zimbabwean engineering sector.

Led by a young engineer, Willard Chirunga (37), Lard Engineering is pushing boundaries, tackling complex challenges and delivering cutting-edge projects that are transforming the country’s infrastructure, economy and lives.

“The company was born five years ago and we are happy with the progress we have made so far,” Chirunga told NewsDay Weekender.

The company’s story is one of inspiration, innovation, and determination.

Today, the company has done monumental projects like Mutare Grain Marketing Board silos construction, University of Zimbabwe (UZ) waterline from Mazowe farm to campus, and Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe LT Line construction in Tshelanyemba, Matebeleland South province, among other mega projects.

Lard Engineering is a wholly Zimbabwe-owned company that specialises in civil construction, building construction and water engineering.

“Being a very young company, it can be envisaged that we are not legible to secure big contracts. Yes, as it might be correct as it can be in conventional talks, it’s a quite different story under the second republic, which accords everyone a chance,” Chirunga said.

“Our intensive marketing and business development, excellent and recommendable service delivery has given us much room to make moves into spaces that were previously occupied by big players.

“Our resilience and dedication have been our key pillars in our drive to make an impact in shark infested sea.”

Other mega projects done by the company are UZ irrigation systems design and installation, Presidential borehole schemes in Mashonaland East province and CMED boreholes rehabilitation.

Chirunga said the company has provided employment to hundreds of youths across Zimbabwe.

“The success of our company can be attributed to excellent service delivery that is timely, cost effective and customer-centric,” he said.

“Moreover, it is all about innovation and our ability to offer modern solutions in the field of construction and water engineering.

“Our staff compliment varies depending on projects, but for the silo projects, we go up to 200 employees at peak period.”

But who is Willard Chirunga?

Chirunga, the company’s managing director, is a holder of BCom Hons degree in Finance (National University of Science and Technology), Msc Finance and Investment (NUST), MBA (UZ), a specialist in financial engineering, financial modelling, entrepreneurship and business management.

He has extensive experience in the field of financial management for construction and water engineering projects.

He is a visionary, a driving force behind the growth and success Lard Engineering through his ability to interact and market the business at any level.
