2 shot dead, 3 nabbed over Bulawayo cop's murder

BULAWAYO, Apr.2 (NewsDayLive) - Police have arrested three suspects in connection with the fatal shooting of a law enforcement agent in Sizinda last month.

The suspects have also been linked to 25 armed robbery that occurred cases in the city.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, national police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi identified the suspects as Mandlenkosi Albert Munangati (26), CIifford Desmond Nare (33) and Thabo Dube (24). 

Nyathi said the firearm used to kill the police officer Sergeant Abel Masava was recovered from the suspects.

"The suspects are also linked to a spate of armed robbery cases in Bulawayo which occurred between April 22 and March 28 2025," Nyathi said. 

 He added:"On March 30, detectives received information which linked a Honda Fit vehicle, registration number AGG 8380 to the murder case and a spate of armed robbery cases in Bulawayo. The detectives tracked the vehicle leading to the arrest of Mandlenkosi Albert Munangati. The suspect implicated the other suspects leading to their arrest and recovery of five firearms - a National Browning pistol BlowF92 Blank pellet gun, Long Rifle 12GA 76/3 inch long, Vizor Pistol, shotgun and a sword."

Nyathi said two other suspects, Sipho Ncube (24) and Dumisani Ndlovu (32) were injured in a shootout with police after they tried to escape arrest. 

They later died on admission to United Bulawayo Hospitals.

The suspects, according to police, mainly targeted supermarkets, liquor outlets and service stations. 

"The Zimbabwe Republic Police applauds the public for providing positive information which led to the arrest of the suspects," Nyathi said.
