BULAWAYO, Apr.2 (NewsDayLive) - The National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) says it is seeking partners to help set up a state-of-the-art concrete sleeper manufacturing plant to produce sleepers for local use and sale to the region.
According to the NRZ, the plant will play a crucial role in refurbishing and maintaining the country's existing railway tracks, while also facilitating the development of new routes to better serve customers.
"We are inviting investors to partner with us in this exciting project," said the NRZ in a statement.
"The plant will produce 60 000 concrete sleepers annually, with 60% allocated for NRZ operations and the remaining 40% available for sale to regional markets."
The NRZ believes that the plant will not only enhance rail transport in Zimbabwe but also drive infrastructure growth in the region.
"We look forward to forging strong partnerships that will drive infrastructure growth and enhance rail transport in Zimbabwe and beyond," said the NRZ.
The NRZ is participating at the Bulawayo Investment Indaba, where it is showcasing investment opportunities in the rail sector.
The concrete sleeper plant is one of several projects that the NRZ is promoting as part of its efforts to revive the country's rail network.
