Fundira first Zimbo to win Tony Chapman Medal

Fundira, who is currently based in the United Kingdom, was nominated for this prestigious award early this year following his successful completion of the Incorporated Professional Review, which earned him the status of an Incorporated Engineer.

TARISIRO Fundira has made history by becoming the first Zimbabwean to win the prestigious Tony Chapman Medal award presented by the Institution of Civil Engineers, which recognises exceptional performance among newly qualified Incorporated Engineers.

Fundira, who is currently based in the United Kingdom, was nominated for this prestigious award early this year following his successful completion of the Incorporated Professional Review, which earned him the status of an Incorporated Engineer.

His win is a testament to his hard work and commitment to the engineering profession.

In addition to the Tony Chapman Medal, Fundira has also been nominated for the Baroness Platt of Writtle Award, which celebrates outstanding engineering achievements.

He has been awarded a £1 000 cash prize and has the potential to receive another £1 000 prize if he wins the Baroness Platt of Writtle Award.

Reflecting on his achievement, Fundira highlighted that the achievement is not only a significant milestone in his career but also an inspiration to aspiring engineers, particularly those from Zimbabwe and other underrepresented communities.

“I am thankful to God, who has honoured me with this award,” he said.

“I’m thankful that through the gift of problem-solving, he was able to use my skills through engineering to impact people and the planet in a positive way.

“To be recognised for it is something special.

“Hopefully, this will inspire more engineers who look like me to know that anything is possible.”

As he continues his professional journey, the engineering community eagerly anticipates his future contributions, applying his skills toward initiatives that benefit his home Zimbabwe.
