HARARE, March 6, (NewsDayLive)- The ruling Zanu PF has expelled outspoken war veteran and central committee member, Blessed Geza, on charges of undermining President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
Addressing a Press conference in Harare on Thursday, Zanu PF legal affairs secretary Patrick Chinamasa said Geza had undermined the party leadership after he called on Mnangagwa to step down.
“I think all of you are aware of the utterances by Comrade Geza, which sought to undermine the party leadership, which sought to undermine Zanu PF, and over and above that, which was an attack on the State machinery,” Chinamasa said.
The former Zanu PF MP was fired alongside former youth leader Gifford Gomwe.
Geza recently scoffed at threats to fire him, saying none among the current leaders had the locus standi to expel him from a party he founded.
The call for Mnangagwa's resignation came at a time of intensifying divisions in Zanu PF over the 82-year-old ruler's succession.
