
HARARE, Feb 19 (NewsDayLive) - Theft of National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) property has earned a Mufakose man a 10-year jail term.
Edison Chidavaenzi (36) was sentenced Tuesday by magistrate Ruth Moyo for contravening the Railways Act.
The court heard that on February 15 this year, Chidavaenzi trespassed into NRZ's NCC Repair Siding and stole coach screws, wagon pin, brake blocck a d wagon offcuts worth US$40 and stashed them into a bag. He was spotted by Sharelight Ncube from the R
NRZ's security camp commiting the offence, leading to his arrest.
Theft and vandalism of NRZ infrastructure has increased over the last few years, with the pastatal losing equipment worth over US$35 000 in the first half of 2024 alone.
