
HARARE, Feb 12 (NewsDay Live) - Two Mabvuku men appeared in court Tuesday charged with stealing seven ostriches valued at US$7 000 from Haka Game Park, Msasa.
Wisdom Supayi and Francis Office were remanded in custody to today for bail application.
The State alleges that on February 3 this year, the two together with their four accomplices who are yet to be arrested, scaled the perimeter fence at Haka Game Park, and gained entry into the ostrich pen.
The accused allegedly killed four ostriches using a log and took them home.
On February 7, 2025 the accused went back to the game park and killed two more ostriches.
Two days later, they again gained entry into the ostrich pen using the same modus operandi and killed two more birds before they were cornered by security guards who opened fire towards them, injuring one but they both managed to escape.
The matter was reported to police CID Flora and Fauna Section, and investigations led to the arrest of Supayi after being found with gunshot wounds on both legs.
Some ostrich feathers were recovered from his house.Supayi later admitted that he was shot at Haka Game Park for stealing ostriches. He then implicated Office, leading to his arrest.
