BULAWAYO, Feb 10 (NewsDayLive) - A bogus Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) recruitment agent has been sentenced to an effective two years and two months jail term for fleecing a potential recruit of US$632.
Whyson Magura was sentenced Monday when he appeared before magistrate Maxwell Ncube facing a fraud charge.
"You are sentenced to 36 months in jail, six are suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour, four months are suspended on condition that you return the complaint's money," Ncube ruled.
This left Magura with an effective two years and two months jail term.
The court heard that sometime in June last year, Magura heard that the complainant Melusi Ndlovu (22) was interested in joining the ZNA, and posed as a recruitment agent.
He asked Ndlovu to pay US$652 claiming the money was for uniforms, trunk, sports kit, laptop and passport application.
Ndlovu later filed a police report after realising that he had been conned.
