HARARE, Feb 10 (NewsDayLive) - One of the robbers who waylaid a Bhola Hardware employee and snatched a satchel containing US$52 000 has been sentenced to 15 years in jail.
Tapiwanashe Murefu (27) was sentenced on his plea Friday when he appeared before magistrate Evelyn Mashavakure.
He might serve an effective five-year jail term after five years were suspended on condition of good behaviour, and another five years set aside on condition he pays restitution before October 2025.
The prosecutor, Dzidzai Josiah said Murefu teamed up with his accomplices and drove to Bhola Hardware located along Harare Street in three motor vehicles.
On arrival, they confronted the complainant who was coming from the shop and grabbed his satchel containing cash amounting to US$52 000, rushed back to their getaway cars and sped off.
The complainant later made a report at the ZRP Kopje, leading to Murefu's arrest and recovery of US$1 000 from him, and US$500 from one of his accomplices Tawanda Mutuma.
