HARARE, Jan 30 (NewsDay Live) - The United States government has called on President Emmerson Mnangagwa's administration to take full responsibility for its own health sector needs following the suspension of foreign aid programmes by Donald Trump's office.
“It is time for Zimbabwe to take seriously its responsibility for the health of its people,” said the US embassy in Harare in a statement released Wednesday.
The communique revealed that despite Zimbabwe reaching the 95/95/95 HIV treatment targets, it must now focus on buying antiretroviral drugs (ART) and staffing its clinics with nurses.
The decision follows a broader move by Trump to freeze certain USAID programmes for three months and allow for re-alignment with the country's foreign policy.
