Name-dropping ZCDC driver granted US$100 bail

COSMAS Kazuzu, the Zimbabwe Consolidated Diamond Company (ZCDC) truck driver arrested recently for allegedly dropping Vice-President Constantine Chiwenga’s name in a labour dispute, has been granted US$100 bail

COSMAS Kazuzu, the Zimbabwe Consolidated Diamond Company (ZCDC) truck driver arrested recently for allegedly dropping Vice-President Constantine Chiwenga’s name in a labour dispute, has been granted US$100 bail.

Kazuzu’s  lawyer Scott Panashe Mamimine confirmed the development, adding that his client was ordered to report twice a week at Chikanga Police Station in Mutare while the matter was remanded to December 5, 2024.

He is being accused of making threatening phone calls to the ZCDC’s chief executive officer Douglas Zimbago in a bid to coerce him to drop charges against the company’s suspended human resources manager.

Kazuzu, who allegedly disguised himself as one Matinyadze from Chiwenga’s office, allegedly ordered Zimbago through calls and text messages to reinstate suspended human resources manager Lavet Wadawarewa.

He allegedly threatened to expose Zimbago’s shady diamond deals if his demands were not met.

Some of the calls, evidence submitted in court, were allegedly made on August 5 and 12.

It  is further alleged that on August 16, Kazuzu contacted ZCDC chief security officer Elias Mvere demanding to know if the company was insisting on pressing charges against Wadawarewa.

On the same date, he allegedly sent a document titled “Developments @ ZCDC” to Mvere via  WhatsApp,and directed that the document be sent to Zimbago.

The document allegedly implicated Zimbago and his executive  team.

Mvere shared the document with Zimbago, leading to Kazuzu’s arrest.
