Government has pledged to assist the Aaron Munodawafa-led Mugodhi Apostolic Faith Church (MAFC) with land for farming purposes and construction of a boarding school in Masvingo province.
Addressing thousands of MAFC pilgrims gathered for the annual women conference at Matihwa, Chivi, Provincial Affairs minister Ezra Chadzamira said the move by the apostolic sect to construct a boarding school was welcome and urged the church leaders to initiate the land acquisition processes.
“We have heard all your concerns, that you want land for farming purposes and construction of a boarding school, we will assist you to achieve that. For now, I urge the church to apply for the land, it is a good move by the church and as a government we are ready to assist,” said Chadzamira.
Chadzamira, who was being accompanied by top Zanu PF officials among them provincial chairperson Robson Mavhenyengwa and Chief Chivi pledged to install a solar-powered borehole to ease water shortages at Matihwa Shrine.
“Vapostori have been rallying behind the ruling party Zanu PF which won the last election. We will ensure that water shortages here are dealt with as we are going to install a solar-powered borehole at this shrine,” he said.
The traditional leaders in the area ordered the church to begin constructing permanent structures at the Matihwa Shrine.
Meanwhile, Chief Chivi has urged the church to educate congregant’s on the sanctity of marriages as divorce cases soar in the area.
“I am glad to note that this gathering is for women and I urge the leaders to do something on educating the congregants on marriage issues. We are recording a spike in the divorce cases in this area and it is worrying.
“The church should also play a major role in thwarting drug abuse by the youths, it is now a menace,” he said.
