MASVINGO-BASED Catholic-run Gokomere High School has said it called parents to collect their children to halt unrest at the school.
The notice from the school to parents on Friday last week indicated that they should collect their children to curb “the persistent unrest in the school”.
The children had, three weeks ago, marched into Masvingo city protesting against the expulsion of two colleagues for engaging in a fistfight.
Speaking to NewsDay yesterday, school head Aquanos Mazhunga said the 15 Form Four boys were being asked to bring their parents to the school to discuss matters linked to indiscipline.
“The learners fought, so we want the parents to come and meet us so they can return to class. We are not expelling them per se. We sent that letter to get the parents to come and map the way forward,” he said.
The Form Four pupils lined up the Harare-Masvingo Highway in a protest they dubbed an “anti-corruption march”. They were stopped at a police checkpoint about 10km out of Masvingo city as they headed towards the city centre.
Primary and Secondary Education spokesperson Taungana Ndoro said he heard about the issue and was awaiting appraisal today.
