THE Rotary Club of Bulawayo has donated clothes and stationery to Vulindlela Orphan Care in Mpopoma, Bulawayo, after organising a soup kitchen.
Bulawayo Rotary club president Lorna Nyoni said their vision is to help disadvantaged members of society by meeting some of their basic needs such as clothing and exercise books.
“We want to help the children. We want to know what their needs are. We want their lives to change so that they do not lack basics, and that is our desire to make a difference in their daily lives,” Nyoni said in an interview.
Vulindlela Orphanage, which has become a refuge for many children from Bulawayo, is situated in Mpopoma, one of the city’s oldest townships.
The day care orphanage, founded by Patricia Tshabalala about 26 years ago, is home to 450 orphans and vulnerable children.
The orphanage also pays schools fees for those attending both primary and secondary schools.
Tshabalala said the donation by the Rotary Club would go a long way in meeting the needs of the orphans.
“The club has put a smile on kids who are going through a lot in their lives. The impact of the soup kitchen is to a greater extent benefiting children from Entumbane, Njube and Nkulumane as well,’’ she said.
