THE Zimbabwean music scene is abuzz with excitement as sungura sensation DT Bio Mudimba prepares to release his highly anticipated single, Twabeyi Shuwa, this July.
The song, which translates to “Tapindwa nei shuwa” in Shona, poses a poignant question about the erosion of sympathy and empathy in today’s society.
According to Mudimba: “That’s a question that I asked myself after introspection and after realising that we as Zimbabweans no longer have hearts filled with sympathy.”
He further noted: “As the song starts, I am asking a relative to say why would you watch and not warn me as I head towards a deadly pitfall?”
In Twabeyi Shuwa, Mudimba laments the loss of cultural values that once bound communities together, where people would readily offer a helping hand in times of need.
Instead, he observes that the prevailing attitude has become “each man for himself”.
Explained DT Bio Mudimba: “The song laments the loss of our cultural values and point out to say we have lost the essence of the community acting as a family, whereby in times of trouble, we would share problems and help those in need. Instead, now it has become each man for himself.”
As the song unfolds, DT Bio Mudimba — born Tawanda Mudimba — points to jealousy as a significant factor causing disunity.

He believes jealousy has not only taken away the joy of celebrating others’ success, but has also led to malicious wishes for others’ downfall, even to the point of wishing death upon them.
DT Bio Mudimba added: “I conclude by citing what I think could be the root cause of this disunity and I suggest jealousy is now one of the factors.
“It has taken away joy when one succeeds even in business and has made people wish for others to die.”
Twabeyi Shuwa promises to be a thought-provoking and soul-stirring track that will resonate with listeners.
