JAZZ performer Dudu Manhenga, Paivepo Arts Group and Tariro Mbira Ensemble will headline the Good Deeds Day African Regional Conference slated for June this year.
The conference will run from June 24 to 25 under the theme, Inclusive volunteerism for equitable, peaceful and sustainable development, Living No One and No place Behind.
Lucia Nkomo, east and southern African regional co-ordinator and country director of Good Deeds Day Zimbabwe, said her organisation offered full support to the cultural and creative industries, and it took pride in promoting local languages through music and dance. She added that preparations were at an advanced stage for showcasing the cultural richness of Zimbabwe.
“Diversification of language, love, kindness and smile is a language everybody understands. The Good Deeds Day African Regional Conference shall take place at the Harare International Conference this June 24th and 25th, including a tour of major attractions and shopping sprees in and around Harare on June 26. On June 24 evening, there will be gastronomy tourism and an awards ceremony.
She said Good Deeds Day Zimbabwe joined other Good Deeds Day organisations scattered all over the world to commemorate Good Deeds Day every April 6. The Good Deeds Day was founded by Shari Arison, an Israeli national based in the United States in 2007. The Good Deeds Day movement was accepted in Zimbabwe in 2016 and has emerged to be one of the fastest-growing global network movements, which is ethically driven and works closely with governments.
The regional conference will showcase and provide information on its relevance in over 117 countries across the world and including accounts from its inception in Zimbabwe in 2016. Good Deeds Day Zimbabwe was chosen to host the conference due to its accomplishments in championing activities in support of Sustainable Development Goals. These include the provision of clean water and sanitation, food and material goods for survival distribution, donations of furniture and books, and youth creative and cultural industries empowerment, among others.
Speaking about the day, Arison said: “I believe that if people think good, speak good and do good, the circles of goodness will grow in the world. Good Deeds Day has become the leading day of giving and this year, individuals, school- children, students, soldiers and employees from many businesses are joining in for the annual Good Deeds Day to do a good deed for others.
Nkomo said Good Deeds Day Zimbabwe had accomplishments like raising awareness on climate change and we urge the youth and the elderly to be their own brother’s keepers, including taking care of their environment.
