HARARE-BASED TikToker and chef Gerald Camron Mherekumombe, popularly known by his username Jerry, is a rising star on social media with videos of him showing people how to make traditional food in modern ways.
Boasting of over 3 000 followers, Jerry said he was hoping to make it big on the TikTok scene, adding that he was working on improving his content creation skills.
He said the TikTok journey had not been an easy one.
"The journey has been hectic, I started in 2020 just for fun. At some point, I was doing really well in terms of creating content for a well-known brand until the contract ended. So, I’m still trying to get back on my feet and create more and interesting stuff, the end goal being that I get paid for it and hopefully grow myself as a brand," Jerry
said.
A lover of food himself, the TikToker, who makes the videos armed with just his mobile phone, said nobody imparted editing skills to him.
"As for editing, I just learnt by myself. I use your basic apps such Adobe, PicsArt," Jerry told NewsDay Life & Style.
He posts videos of himself cooking conventional Zimbabwean cuisine such as sadza, beef, veggies adding ingredients such as mango pickle to spice up chicken gizzards and feet which is not quite common but he promises that it tastes better than it sounds!

One of his most unconventional dishes is sadza nuggets which when cooked resemble fried chicken nuggets as the two are prepared in almost the same way.
A professional chef, Jerry said at some point he wanted to change the academic route and study in the media field at university.
He was demotivated to pursue that route.
"I guess it doesn't really matter since I am doing what I love and that is what counts," Jerry said.
