First Farai ropes in stars for new album

First Farai

A GALAXY of local musicians is part of a “sungura riddim” contained in First Farai’s 20th album titled: Chigwagwagwa: Ndopinda Nepauri Ipapo to be launched tonight at Bar Rouge, Long Chen Plaza in Belvedere, Harare.

Born Aliya Mwanambo, First Farai says he has brought together several musicians in the project, which carries five tracks, to show unity among artistes.

“Since everyone has been releasing albums, I felt obliged to come up with my project as well and this one is titled Chigwagwagwa: Ndopinda Nepauri Ipapo,” he told NewsDay Life & Style.

“The album carries five tracks and one of the tracks is more of a riddim that features a number of sungura musicians, 75% of those who are going to perform at the album launch on Wednesday (today).”

First Farai, who made a grand entrance into the music industry with the track Secret Number off his debut album Simba Nacho, believes the album is one of his best productions.

“It’s a good album whose songs are worth listening and dancing to. Those who attended my live show can attest to the fact that I am among the best entertainers in the country,” he said.

Songs on the new album are: Zvinoda Kutendwa, Munamato Wababa, Sahwira, Baba Namai and Sweet Mother.

The burly musician said he could not promote his last album titled Hurudza Haivhunduke Zhizha released last year due to COVID-19-induced lockdowns, adding that it was a lost opportunity, but he had no regrets.

“Well, I did not have time to market my last album because of COVID-19 restrictions, moreso we did not go around to do live shows,” he noted.

Among the artistes set to support First Farai at the launch tonight are sungura stars Alick Macheso, Nicholas Zakaria, Peter Moyo as well as Somandla Ndebele, dendera singer Sulumani Chimbetu, jiti musician Baba Harare and Progress Chipfumo.

Other artistes to feature at the launch include Tindo Ngwazi, Solo Moyo, Simon Mutambi, Tendai Dembo, Mathew Perego, Mark Ngwazi, Romeo Gasa, Gift Amuli, Batsirai Chinyanga and Joseph Garakara.
