Mawada shrugged off fierce competition from 15 other contestants to clinch the coveted crown, which saw Nothando Ncube and Grace Ncube becoming the first and second runners-up respectively.
“It is an amazing feeling. I was not expecting to be crowned queen. I thank my family, friends and also the organisers and myself for giving it all my best,” Mawada said.
Mawada will represent Zimbabwe at the finals of Miss Grand International in Thailand in November. “The bar has been set for future modelling and music shows after hosting this show, as I believe that people should get value for their money,” the pageant’s public relations officer Chris Vukani, said.
The pageant licence holder Samantha Tshuma said the platform was open for sponsors to come on board as she prepared to send Mawada to Thailand. “We want more sponsors to come in as we want to leave a mark in Thailand,” Tshuma said.
Mawada, born and bred in Bulawayo, started modelling last year at the Miss Universities pageant where she represented Zimbabwe Open University (ZOU). She was part of the top 10 finalists at the Miss Bulawayo.
Currently she is studying third year towards a degree in Media Studies with ZOU.
