Mahachi, Freeman join forces

The single is a precursor to Mahachi’s forthcoming album to be released later this year.

Local gospel musician Tatenda Mahachi and Zimdancehall sensation Freeman HKD have joined forces to produce a single titled Namata.

The single is a precursor to Mahachi’s forthcoming album to be released later this year.

Released last Monday with the accompanying visuals having been dropped two days later, Namata has already captivated listeners with its powerful message and melodious harmony.

Apart from rapidly gaining traction on major national radio stations, resonating deeply with audiences, the video has also accumulated a lot of followership on various online platforms.

“This song was a long time coming. I have always wanted to expand my horizons by trying out new genres to spread the message of the cross,” said Mahachi.

“Working with Freeman has been an incredible experience, and I believe Namata would touch many hearts.”

The fusion of Mahachi's gospel roots with Freeman HKD's distinct dancehall style has created a unique sound that transcends traditional genre boundaries.

Mahachi’s albums include Miyedzo which was released in 2007, Kure in 2010, Agare (2014) and Declarations (2016).

Agare carries the track Ndibvumbamirei, which featured Afro-jazz musician Prudence Katomeni Mbofana.

He has had collaborations with Tuku on the song Ndisiye and in 2015 Mahachi formed a formidable partnership with the late South African Sifiso Ncwane following their collaboration of the song Ndinoda Jesu/Ngiyamuthanda UJesu, off his fourth album titled Declarations.

In 2016 Mahachi collaborated with American singer Isaac Simpson on He Cares For You.

Last year South African award-winning gospel musician and TV presenter Winnie Mashaba joined forces with Mahachi on the single A Friend.
