FC PLATINUM coach Norman Mapeza insists his team is still in contention for the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League title, despite a recent slump in form that has seen them fall 10 points behind log leaders Simba Bhora.
The four-time PSL champions have had a difficult three weeks, losing league games to Scottland FC and Triangle United.
Their woes were compounded by a first-round exit from the 2025 Chibuku Super Cup at the hands of Manica Diamonds.
This string of poor results has led many to write them off, as their rivals, including Simba Bhora and Scottland FC, have been on a strong run.
FC Platinum now sit behind Scottland FC, MWOS FC and Herentals FC in the standings.
However, Mapeza remains optimistic, believing his team can turn things around and reignite their title bid.
Speaking ahead of their crucial home match against Caps United at Mandava Stadium tomorrow, Mapeza acknowledged the challenges, but stressed the importance of fighting to the finish.
“We are playing a very good team,” Mapeza said, referring to Caps United.

“Currently, we are in the same category in terms of what has transpired in the last few weeks.
“Like I said, ever since Ian (Bakala) came to coach Caps United, they have been doing very, very well. But, as for us, it’s a very important game.”
The coach emphasised the need to capitalise on their home-ground advantage.
“Playing at home, like I always say, it’s all about taking advantage of us playing at home. Although we have been having some challenges of late, especially during the year, it’s a game of football.”
With the season in its final stages, Mapeza compared the title race to a marathon, confident that his team’s destiny is still in their own hands.
“We are going to the last few kilometres of the marathon. In terms of destiny, I think it’s still in our hands,” he said.
“We have to fight for it because it’s not going to be easy. But if you really want to get something out of this competition, we have to really, really, really work hard and see how we are going to finish the
season.”
