Zim football mourns FC Platinum's Brian Banda

In a statement, FC Platinum explained the circumstances around Banda's untimely passing.

ZIMBABWEAN football is in mourning following the tragic death of FC Platinum and national team midfielder, Brian Banda, who passed away in a road traffic accident yesterday.

Banda, aged 29, was one of the most celebrated midfielders in the local Castle Lager Premier Soccer League, known for his exceptional skill, passion and commitment to the game.

The accident occurred on the Zvishavane-Bulawayo Road, a day after Banda watched FC Platinum in their 1-1 draw against defending champions Simba Bhora at Mandava Stadium in Zvishavane, as he was out injured.

In a statement, FC Platinum explained the circumstances around Banda's untimely passing.

"We are deeply saddened to share the news of Brian Banda's passing, which occurred today, June 29, 2025, in a car accident on the Zvishavane-Bulawayo Road. Tragically, he lost his life. FC Platinum have suffered the loss of a remarkable player. We kindly request that everyone respect the family's privacy during this difficult time as they grieve. Go well Brian Banda.

"FC Platinum have lost not only a talented athlete, but also a beloved teammate and friend. Brian's dedication to the sport and his infectious enthusiasm on and off the field left an indelible mark on all who knew him. His contributions to the team were invaluable and his spirit will continue to inspire us. In these challenging moments, let us remember the joy and passion Brian brought into our lives.

"We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and all who held him dear. May his legacy live on in the hearts of those he touched, and may his memory be a source of comfort and strength," the statement read.

The Premier Soccer League (PSL) shared its sorrow following Banda's death.

"The Premier Soccer League is deeply saddened to learn of the untimely passing of FC Platinum's Brian Banda, a talented player who graced our league with skill, passion and commitment to the beautiful game. Brian left a lasting impact on the field of play and in the hearts of fans, his team and the football community. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and teammates, FC Platinum family and the entire football family during this difficult time. May his soul rest in eternal peace. Rest easy," the PSL said.

The Zimbabwe Football Association also expressed its grief, acknowledging Banda's leadership within his club.

"The Zimbabwe Football Association is deeply saddened by the tragic passing of Brian Banda, captain of FC Platinum, who succumbed to injuries sustained in a car accident. RIP Bibiza"

Banda's passing leaves a void in Zimbabwean football.

He will be remembered not only for his prowess on the field, but also for the positive impact he had on his teammates, fans and the wider football community.
