ZIMBABWE Football Association (Zifa) president Nqobile Magwizi has assured the Young Mighty Warriors of the association’s unwavering support as they prepare for their global and regional assignments this month.

Magwizi sent off the Zimbabwe Under-20 Women and the Zimbabwe Under-17 Girls at Dominican Convent School in Harare on Thursday, urging the young female footballers to wear the country’s badge with battle pride.

The Under-20 team departs for Kigali, Rwanda, today to face the hosts in a two-legged 2026 World Cup Qualifier scheduled for tomorrow and Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the Under-17 Girls will participate in the Cosafa Under-17 Girls Championship in Windhoek, Namibia, starting tomorrow.

The locals, drawn in Group C with Botswana and Lesotho, will play their games next Thursday and Saturday.

They depart Harare tomorrow.

Magwizi emphasised the significance of this moment for Zimbabwe football, particularly in the growth of the women’s game.

“Today marks a significant and proud moment of Zimbabwe football and particularly on the ongoing rise of the women’s game in our country,” he said.

“We’ve gathered here not just to bid farewell, but to stand together as one football family to celebrate, to honour and to express our unwavering support to our heroines.”

The Zifa president was accompanied by a high-powered delegation, including vice-president Loveness Wadzanai Mukura, board members Kudzai Kadzombe and Alice Zeure, and the association’s chief executive, Yvonne Manwa, among others.

Magwizi reminded the players of the hopes and aspirations of the people they represent.

“This country has 17 million people,” Magwizi added.

“There are a lot of Zimbabweans who never had that opportunity to represent the whole country.

“So, wear the badge with pride and play with emotional resentment, that never say die spirit because you are representing the nation.”

He added that his association would move mountains in ensuring that the teams get adequate support to compete at the highest level of the game.
