
PLATINUM Royals rose to the top of the Zimbabwe Women Premier Soccer League table after a thumping 13-0 victory over newcomers Red Buffalo Sports Academy at Vengere Stadium in Rusape on Saturday.
Captain Charity Karuru was unstoppable, scoring six goals, including the team's opener in the seventh minute. Karuru's teammates supported her well, with Fortunate Nyoka adding a brace, while other goals came from Ennerty Chemhere, Sisa Ndebele, Patience Nkomo and Beauty Kanyumbo.
The win propelled Platinum Royals to the summit of the table, tied with Chapungu Queens on 12 points from four matches. However, Platinum Royals hold the top spot due to a superior goal difference.
The weekend saw other entertaining matches. Black Rhinos beat Sheasham Gweru Queens 7-0 at Bata Stadium in Gweru, with Rhinos striker Rutendo Makore scoring a brace. Chapungu Queens had a convincing 4-0 win over Highlanders Royals, while Maningi Youth Soccer Academy secured their first points of the season, a 2-1 win over Black Mambas Queens.
Defending champions Herentals Queens continued their imperious form, thrashing Conduit Soccer Academy 6-0, with Natasha Benza scoring a hat-trick.
Serial goalscorer Praynence Zvawanda opened the floodgates after five minutes, Benza scored after 27 minutes, 60th and 82nd minutes, while Shyline Dambamuromo (30') and new signing Morelife Nyagumbo sealed Conduit's fate with Herentals' last goal after 81 minutes.
