TRADITIONAL healers have been urged to embrace modern standards and invest in value addition and improved packaging.
Zambian herbal medicine specialist John Phiri said the future of herbal remedies depended on their ability to meet consumer expectations.
Phiri is exhibiting at the Zimbabwe Agricultural Show (ZAS), showcasing a wide range of organic herbal medicines aimed at promoting health and wellness through natural solutions.
“Traditionalists must also move with the times, do value addition and improve their packaging for organic medication,” Phiri, who is also the managing director of Jonmaka Products based in Lusaka, Zambia, said.
“We came this year to introduce our numerous products to Zimbabweans.”
He stressed the need for traditionalists to adopt modern techniques in product presentation to improve consumer trust and ensure compliance with health standards.
“Proper labelling, attractive packaging and quality assurance are essential for positioning African herbal medicine on the global stage,” he said.
“By embracing value addition, improved packaging and certified organic processes, herbal medicine can play a vital role in transforming healthcare and creating economic opportunities across Africa.”
