Pedestrian killed in Tshabalala hit-and-run incident

The accident occurred at 10pm along Nketa Drive, according to Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Nomalanga Msebele.

BULAWAYO police are investigating a hit-and-run accident that claimed the life of a 50-year-old pedestrian in Tshabalala high-density suburb in Bulawayo on Saturday night.

The accident occurred at 10pm along Nketa Drive, according to Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Nomalanga Msebele.

The victim, Mark Banda, was walking along the road when he was struck by an unidentified vehicle travelling in the opposite direction.

“The driver failed to stop and render assistance,” said Msebele.

Banda died on the spot.

His body was taken to hospital for post-mortem.

Police issued a stern warning to motorists, emphasising that stopping after an accident is both a legal and moral obligation.

“We urge drivers to never flee the scene, regardless of circumstances. Assisting the injured is a duty,” Msebele added.

She appealed to the public for information that can help to identify the vehicle or driver involved. Investigations are continuing.
