Man accused of raping MSU student

Prosecutor Rufaro Chonzi alleges that on July 12 this year, the victim went to bed with her door closed, but unlocked.

A HARARE man yesterday appeared before Harare magistrate Donald Ndirowei facing allegations of raping a Midlands State University student.

Simbarashe Munenge (26) from Belvedere was remanded in custody to today for possible bail application.

Prosecutor Rufaro Chonzi alleges that on July 12 this year, the victim went to bed with her door closed, but unlocked.

Chonzi said around midnight, the victim woke up to find Munenge in her bed, with his pair of trousers at knee level.

The court heard that the complainant confronted the accused demanding to know why he entered the room uninvited.

It is alleged that the complainant kicked Munenge who violently grabbed her before removing her panty.

Munenge allegedly raped the woman without protection.

After the violation, the victim went to the balcony leaving the accused in the room and called her mother’s sister to inform her about the rape.

The matter was reported to the police leading to Munenge’s arrest
