
HARARE, March 11 (NewsDay Live) - A 14-year-old boy from Mashonaland East province, has been sentenced to a five-year jail term for raping a seven-year-old girl between 2023 and September last year.
The teenage rapist from Mahusekwa, who appeared before a Marondera magistrate, will serve his sentence under the supervision of a probation officer for one year.
The court heard that between 2023 and September 2024, the boy repeatedly raped the young girl. A medical examination confirmed the assault.
In an unrelated case, a 47-year-old police officer stationed in Zvishavane has been sentenced to 21 years in prison for raping his Grade 7 daughter.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority, the abuses started in August 2024 and continued until January 2025 when he was caught in the act by a close family member, but managed to force her to remain mum.
The crime only came to light after the victim confided in her friends and school teacher who then helped her file a police report.
A medical examination confirmed the sexual abuse.
