Bishop-cum-land barron up for US$80k fraud

- A Bishop at Emmanuel Global Church on Tuesday appeared in court on allegations of defrauding a local businessman of US$ 80 000 in a botched residential stand deal.

HARARE, Feb 4 (NewsDay Live) - A Bishop at Emmanuel Global Church on Tuesday appeared in court on allegations of defrauding a local businessman of US$ 80 000 in a botched residential stand deal.

The accused, Emmanuel Muzondi (49) from Old Highfield was released on US$200 bail and advised to return to court on  February 24 for routine remand .

Muzondi faces a charge of defrauding Lovemore Pasipamire, the director of Pasmic Procurements  (Pvt) Ltd, of US$80 000 in a botched residential stand deal.

State prosecutor Dzidzai Josiah alleged that sometime in July 2023, Pasipamire was advised by three estate agents identified as Milton  Vambe and Samuel Dandira that Muzondi was selling a residential stand measuring 3 073 square metres in Mandara low-density suburb.

To make the deal appear genuine, Muzondi allegedly produced a fake agreement of sale and allocation letter he purportedly signed with the City of Harare's then acting housing director Mathew Marara on November 16 , 2016.

Paipamire was then shown the land and expressed interest in  purchasing it for US$80 000 .

He allegedly made an initial payment of US$75 000 and got a receipt, but the accused became evasive after receiving the balance.

On December 11, 2024, The matter was reported to police on December 11, 2024, where it was then discovered that Muzondi had used forged documents.
