A talented young visual artist from Gweru, Maphosa, resides in Harare as a student artist in habitation at the SwissZimHeritage Gallery and Studio in Domboshava.
Her artwork showcases her creativity and skill, with notable pieces like Love Veild and Musikana wema fruits.
Her notable achievements include exhibiting in Switzerland through Artgal Online Thundorf and showcased pieces like Smile (2025, CHF2 000) and African Queen (2024, CHF1 500) respectively.
She came second in a Midlands competition focused on climate change, demonstrating her artistic prowess and commitment to pressing global issues.

My art focuses on amplifying the voices of women and highlighting their experiences, challenges, and triumphs.
The exhibition is themed Roots and Horizons. How does your artwork reflect this theme, especially in the context of Zimbabwe’s gender equality concerns?
The Roots and Horizons theme resonates with me as it speaks to the connection between our cultural heritage and the modern world.
My artwork explores the complexities of Zimbabwean society, highlighting the experiences of women and the importance of preserving our cultural identity.
Your debut at Siyekhaya Estate Gallery was well received. How has that experience shaped your development as an artist and influenced your approach to this new showcase at Art 84 Gallery?

I’ve navigated the art world by staying true to my vision and engaging with other artists and mentors.
What do you believe is the role of visual art in tackling pressing issues like women and empowerment?
Visual art plays a crucial role in tackling pressing issues like women’s empowerment and social justice.

Collaboration and shared cultural expression are essential to my creative journey.
Being part of a collective of creatives has allowed me to learn from others, share ideas and grow as an artist.
Do you have specific artists, movements or mentors who have influenced your visual language and artistic style over the years?
I’ve been influenced by my mentor, Keith Zenda, who has shaped my visual language and artistic style.
His guidance and expertise have been invaluable in helping me to develop my unique style and voice as an artist.
Looking ahead, what are your aspirations for your career? Are there particular projects, themes or international platforms you hope to engage with in the near future?
My aspirations for my career include continuing to push boundaries and explore new themes.
I hope to engage with international platforms and collaborate with artists from diverse backgrounds.
