THE Karoi farming town will host local, regional and international artists this month as part of the Hurungwe Arts Festival (HAF) fiesta.
The event runs from July 25 to 27.
HAF founder and executive director Joel Zilala said the premier arts event in Zimbabwe would showcase a diverse range of artistic expressions, including music, theatre, dance and visual arts.
Among artists to grace the event is a globally-acclaimed cultural ambassador couple, Tafadzwa and Amy Matamba, under the brand name Mbira Spirit.
Tafadzwa hails from Hurungwe and the event is like a homecoming show for the Canada-based ambassadors.
Mbira Spirit is currently basking in world recognition through its cultural and traditional vibes.
Last week, Mbira Spirit was announced as a finalist in the prestigious 2025 InterContinental Music Awards (ICMA), an international competition that recognises outstanding musical talent from across the globe.
The InterContinental Music Awards, based in Los Angeles, California, celebrates musicians from every continent and all genres, promoting peace, unity and cultural diversity while providing professional recognition and growth opportunities.
Finalists will be celebrated at the official 2025 ICMA Online awards ceremony on August 24, 2025, where winners will be announced.
InterContinental Music Awards have provided a powerful platform for artists to gain international visibility, grow their careers and connect with music industry leaders. Last week, Mbira Spirit was part of a fabulous dance ensemble at the AfriCa-Fest Canada.
"They taught us a dance too," noted Matamba at the weekend. He confirmed that they are ready for the festival.
"We are prepared to share the stage with both regional and local musicians and artists through diversity during the Hurungwe Arts Festival. Our performances are based on Zimbabwean cultural heritage and mbira music speaks of our traditional customs," said Matamba in an interview from his base over the weekend.
Zilala confirmed that this year's festival will feature a talented lineup of regional and international artists, including Msanza-Arts-simple Theatre from Zambia, innovative theatre productions that push the boundaries of storytelling and performance. "We have Cosca Films (Zambia) showcasing the best of Zambian film talent and creativity, Jah Luther from Zambia, a renowned musician known for his soulful voice and captivating stage presence, is part of artists coming through and Uncle DEEZO also from Zambia who is a celebrated artiste and performer brings a unique blend of music and storytelling to the stage," said Zilala.
Another regional artist to take part at the event is Jindi, a Sudanese artist living in Dubai, who is rated as a dynamic performer blending Sudanese culture with international influences, while Bhek'zizwe from South Africa, who is a celebrated artiste known for his innovative approach to music and performance, is among the regional team.
Internationally, Jean Gardy from Canada will be part of the lineup.
Cardy is rated as a talented artist bringing a fresh perspective from the Canadian arts scene.
Zilala said the Hurungwe Arts Festival 2025 promised to be an unforgettable experience, with diverse artistic performances, including music, theatre, dance, visual arts and opportunities to engage with regional and international artists and learn about different cultural practices.
"This is the time for networking of industry professionals, artists and like-minded individuals. There will be a vibrant and festive atmosphere that celebrates the arts," he said.
This will be the 8th edition of the festival.
