If anything is to go by, judging from the recent announcement of the people’s choice nominees at the forthcoming Namas, hip-hop seems to be the Genre of choice now in Zimbabwe.
The Namas revealed their nominees for their 22nd annual, tagged kwa22 and the people’s choice category was largely dominated by hip-hop artistes.
The line-up features Delilah hit maker Holy10, Bipolar singer Saintfloew and Voltz JT whose Mukoma Brian is on everyone’s lips at the moment.
The three will lock horns with Zimdancehall icon Winky D and Instagram sensation Theofelas Chigumira who is also known as Astra Mai Khirifodi.
Saintfloew is also nominated for “one by one” where he featured Julian King.
Holy10 and Voltz JT, who may sometimes easily be confused for the other due to their similar sounds, have a history of bitter rivalry, it remains to be seen who will emerge king of the kraal.
The Namas are set to take place on February 24 in Bulawayo at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair Hall with performances from Bhekiwe Dube, Noluntu J and Calvin Mangena, among others.
The move to Bulawayo is expected to revive the annual ceremony, which had been dubbed as a “Harare” event.
