SUNDUZA Dance Theatre director Charles Banda has said his second solo studio album titled Imizwa (Feelings) is set to be launched on November 11 and it is inspired by his late father Simon “Mahlaba” Banda and social issues people face every day.
The 10-track album, to be launched at Bulawayo Theater, was produced by Loud Records and Elephant Herd Records.
It features artistes such as Qeqe Mntambo, Mwezi Mwezi, Helen Nyathi, Ishmael Muvhingi, Brilliant Ntando Sithole, Vikmoe, Gaz’ Elimnyama and Baphi Mdladla.
“The album was set to be launched in August this year but then we had challenges. A lot was happening that month then we set it for this coming month on November 11,” he said.Banda added that the album was made during the Covid-19 lockdown.
“We took our time to make sure our music is mature and has a strong message. I want to give people music that will last,” he said.The Afro jazz artiste said his love for music is derived from his late father and the second album is inspired by him and social issues among other things.“I am always inspired by my late father Simon Banda,” he said.
“Coming to this album, I am inspired by the social issues we face on a daily basis.
“I gave my album the title Imizwa because the message it carries, relates with anyone’s story.
“Each song is telling the story of different feelings that we have seen or felt.

“The word ‘feelings’ is broad because it covers different things like emotions, anger or happiness.”
Banda said he used a live band in making the album.“My second album is totally different because I recorded the whole album with a live band,” he said.
“So it’s unique, I need my craft to be set for international standards and to create music that will last.“The first album was mixed (Afro-pop and Afro-jazz), but now its pure Afro-jazz including the arrangements and the style is unique.
“So all is set for the big day and I would like to thank everyone who came on board to make this a success.”
