Macheso strikes bank deal

Sungura virtuoso Alick Macheso has partnered Nedbank Zimbabwe for a mobile app campaign dubbed Kete Pakete from one of his popularised music chant.

The sungura kingpin, who is no stranger to endorsement deals having worked with brands like Nash Paints, Bakers Inn and Zimbabwe Red Cross Society to name a few, said he was honoured to be part of the initiative.

“As creatives we have a lot to offer to the corporate sector in terms of marketing and brand visibility and I am happy that Nedbank Zimbabwe has engaged me for this initiative,” Macheso told Standard Style.

“Mobile money is a welcome adaptation, especially in view of changing times and the Covid-19-related risk. With the Nedbank Zimbabwe mobile app, you can make payments from the comfort of your home. I am glad my brand is pushing a noble innovation.”

Nedbank Zimbabwe head of sales Heressy Herry said the brand synergies between their institution and the two creatives was an indicator of the many possibilities that abound in the local industry.

“As professionally run brands, we are all about bringing value to the market in the best possible way and we are happy to introduce the Nedbank Zimbabwe Mobile App, which is bringing a lot of convenience to Zimbabweans from all walks of life through this Kete Pakete campaign,” said Herry.

“The app has got a zero data facility, which means once you have downloaded it, there is is no worrying about data costs for every transaction.

“Engaging Macheso and Cody is our way of saying we are a brand for the people and you will see the two appearing in our mobile app educational skits and other information, education and communication material.”

Herry said the mobile app was aimed at bringing convenience, especially during this time of Covid-19-induced lockdown.

“There is a symbiotic relationship between corporates and creatives because we all serve the same market. As Nedbank Zimbabwe we are happy to be working with some of the most celebrated creatives in Alick Macheso and Cody as we look at educating the market about our mobile app,” he said.

The new Nedbank mobile app has unique security features and allows users to send and receive money, pay for services like electricity, DStv as well as buy airtime.

Nedbank Zimbabwe Limited was established in July 2004 after changing from Zimbabwe’s oldest merchant bank, Merchant Bank of Central Africa Limited, which was incorporated on July 31, 1956.
