Mashonaland East Province police have arrested a man, who allegedly raped his 10-year-old niece before giving her $20 in a bid to silence her.
Provincial police spokesperson Inspector Simon Chazovachi yesterday confirmed the arrest of the 40-year-old accused from Chandada Village, under chief Neshangwe.
On August 8, at around 2pm, the girl was sent by her father to collect a mobile phone sim card from her grandmother in the same village.
On her way back, the accused who stays with the complainant’s grandmother, followed the girl and dragged her into a nearby bush where he raped her once.
He gave her $20 and threatened her with death if she revealed the matter to anyone.
The girl told a neighbour, who filed a police report.
