Bulawayo Chiefs… (0) 1

NEWLY appointed Bulawayo Chiefs coach Portuguese Nilton Terroso says he is not yet satisfied with his team’s type of play despite watching his charges come from a goal down to force a draw against Chicken Inn in a dull Chibuku Super Cup Group 2 match at Babourfields yesterday.

The Gamecocks took the lead in the 17th minute, after Brian Muza was set up by skipper Moses Jackson in the box after Chiefs failed to mark in their own box, giving Muza a chance.

Chiefs came back a rejuvenated side, making changes to the midfield, resulting in their skipper Malvin Mkolo leveling the scores with a header from a  Mthokozisi Musebe spot kick.

Addressing the media in a post-match interview, Terroso hailed his charges for being mature enough to grab a point from Chicken Inn.

“Having the maturity and the ability to turn things around and get our goal and to be able to compete and to play without fear is a positive that we can take. We will try to expand from there,” he said.

“We know there are areas we need to work on and we know that we are not where we want the team to be, but that would come down to hard work and time, there is no magic recipe or secret formula for us to play well.”

Chicken Inn coach Joey Antipas bemoaned his players’ lack of self-confidence and challenged them to improve ahead of the quarterfinals.

“We did well, but the boys should have self-confidence to play. Each player just needs to improve on their performance as we play Ngezi or FC Platinum, each player has to rise to the occasion in the quarter finals because the knockouts are not like the league, if you are out you are out,” said Chicken Inn coach Joey Antipas.

The win keeps the gamecocks on top of the group on 12, three points ahead of second placed Highlanders, who take on stubborn Bulawayo City FC today.

Bosso will need to win by a margin of more than four goals to finish top of the group on goal difference.
