TEENAGE swimming star Donata Katai headlines a four-member team, which has been selected to represent the country at the 19th FINA World Championships scheduled for next month in Budapest, Hungary.
The World Championships are scheduled for June 18-25 at the Duna Arena
Katai made history last year after she became the first black swimmer to represent Zimbabwe at the Olympics Games in Tokyo although she failed to reach the semi-finals of the 100 meter backstroke despite recording a personal best and coming first in her heat.
The athlete who turned 18 yesterday, will be looking to make her mark at the World championships.
Other swimmers making the team include Denilson Cyprianos and Nomvula Mjimba, who are both based in the US as well as England based Liam Davis.
The Zimbabwe Aquatic Union Swimming Board of Control announced the team on Friday.
“The event will feature five out of the six aquatics disciplines: swimming, diving, water polo, open water, artistic swimming. The swimming events will be from the 18th to 25th of June at the Duna Arena,” read the announcement by the country’s swimming board.

The team comprises Denilson Cyprianos, currently based in the US and training with the South Dakota University, coached by Douglas Humphrey and Liam Davis, currently based in Edinburgh and training with Ross Douglas.
Katai, based in Harare, at Sharks with Kathy Lobbis also form part of the team as well as Nomvula Mjimba, based in the USA at Gannon University under Jacqueline Michalski.
The appointed coach for the team is Masi Takaedza, who is based at Peterhouse High School.
