Lunga involved in shooting incident

Warriors and Mamelodi Sundowns defender Divine Lunga has survived a shootout in Johannesburg, according to reports in South Africa.

The left-back was reportedly targeted after attempting to intervene in a robbery involving approximately R34,000.

South African media outlets report that Lunga’s blue BMW car was fired upon, with images circulating on social media appearing to show at least one bullet hole in the bodywork of the footballer's luxury vehicle.

Remarkably, the Warriors defender escaped the ordeal without sustaining any physical injuries, though he is said to be deeply shaken by the encounter.

Gauteng police have since launched an investigation into the incident, which is officially being treated as a case of attempted murder.

The harrowing incident throws a fresh spotlight on the pervasive issue of violent crime in South Africa's major urban hubs, where high-profile athletes have increasingly found themselves in the crosshairs.

Messages of support have begun pouring in from football fans across Southern Africa, wishing the defender strength as he recovers from the psychological trauma of the assault.
