Warriors goalkeeper Washington Arubi has joined Caps United on a reported two-year contract, bringing a definitive end to his 14-year tenure in South Africa.
While the club has yet to officially confirm the signing, social media has already pre-empted any formal press release. Images circulating widely depict the veteran shot-stopper alongside Caps United president Farai Jere, with Arubi wearing the green-and-white jersey of the Green Machine.
Arubi’s arrival at Makepekepe is timely, designed to inject stability into a backline recently undermined by instability. He is widely expected to replace Wallace Magalane, who is reportedly on his way out of the club following a sequence of high-profile blunders that cost his side dearly in recent weeks.
Taking to social media this morning to confirm his departure from the DStv Premiership, the goalkeeper expressed deep gratitude for a career that transformed him into one of the most reliable figures in South African football.
His most recent stint was a two-year spell with Marumo Gallants.
"Thank you South Africa. I leave with a clear conscience. I'm grateful," Arubi wrote, explicitly tagging several of his former employers, including Amatuks, Stellenbosch, SuperSport United, Tshakhuma, and Marumo Gallants.
Arubi’s journey south of the Limpopo began in 2012, a move earned on the back of inspiring Dynamos to consecutive Premier Soccer League titles.
What followed was a highly resilient career that stretched across multiple clubs, firmly establishing him among Zimbabwe's most successful footballing exports.

Throughout his decade-and-a-half in South Africa, Arubi featured for the University of Pretoria, Black Aces, Stellenbosch, SuperSport United, Tshakhuma, and Gallants. His crowning achievement came during the 2020/21 season, where he inspired underdog Tshakhuma to an unlikely Nedbank Cup triumph, subsequently walking away with the coveted Player of the Tournament award.
Beyond the immediate tactical upgrade he offers Caps United, Arubi’s return carries immense historical weight.
Having previously turned out for both Highlanders and Dynamos where he was voted the Soccer Star of the Year, his signing ensures his induction into a highly exclusive club of footballers to have represented all three of Zimbabwe’s traditional sporting giants.
