Chinyama takes on Agama rescue mission

FORMER Dynamos striker Takesure Chinyama

FORMER Dynamos striker Takesure Chinyama has surfaced at relegation strugglers Agama, just months after his quiet departure from the Harare giants.

The former forward, whose playing career took him through the top flights of Poland and South Africa, has integrated into the top-flight newcomers' technical setup. Chinyama was spotted on the bench over the weekend as a resilient Agama held Caps United to a goalless draw at Wadzanayi Stadium.

However, evidence suggests his arrival predates Sunday’s game.

Ahead of their fixture against Chicken Inn last week, the newly promoted side dropped a heavily hinted teaser on their official Facebook page.

"As Agama Football Club, we want to Takesure, sorry, to make sure that we do our best when we meet Chicken Inn this Saturday. The mission is simple: to bite the largest part of the meat. After all, opportunities like these do not come every day. No small portions... tikuda Chinyama chacho chihombe," the club wrote.

Chinyama’s return to the touchline comes after a short stint at Dynamos.

He bounced back at DeMbare in May last year, assuming the role of strikers’ coach under the stewardship of Lloyd "Mablanyo" Chigowe.

While Chinyama initially survived the cull when Chigowe was sacked and subsequently replaced by Kelvin Kaindu later in the season, his luck evaporated at the turn of the year.

When Kaindu departed for Hardrock ahead of the current campaign, new Dynamos coach Genesis Mangombe opted for a total overhaul, installing his own backroom staff. With no vacancy opening up for Chinyama at Hardrock either, the Uefa B licence holder found himself without a role until Agama came calling.

Intriguingly, official team sheets for the Caps United clash listed Chinyama under the modest title of "kit manager".

However, sources close to the club indicated to this publication that the designation is a mere formality.

In reality, Chinyama has been brought in as an assistant coach with a mandate to re-engineer the club's blunt frontline.

It is a task that will test Chinyama’s coaching credentials to the limit. Agama currently languish in 15th position within the relegation zone, hampered by one of the division's most anaemic conversion rates.

The top-flight novices have registered a paltry 12 goals all season—a dismal record superior only to Chicken Inn and the basement duo of Triangle and Manica Diamonds.

Following Sunday's hard-fought point against Caps United, Agama must now look to translate the solidity they showed into goals.

They take to the road this weekend to face Bulawayo Chiefs at the reopened Luveve Stadium, where Chinyama’s influence on the training pitch will face its next rigorous examination.
