ZIMBABWE have avoided powerhouse hosts Kenya after being drawn in Pool B for the Davis Cup Africa Group IV tournament, which gets underway today at the Nairobi Club.
The draw, conducted yesterday, offers a major boost for the Zimbabwean side, who sidestepped a rising Kenyan team playing on home soil.
Instead, Zimbabwe will face the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Angola and Mozambique in a round-robin format running until Friday on the outdoor clay courts.
Host nation Kenya headline a competitive Pool A that also features Ghana, Botswana and Algeria.
With eight nations, four days and one objective, the stakes could not be higher.
The top two teams from each pool will advance to crossover promotional play-offs on Saturday, with the two winners securing promotion to Africa Group III for 2027.
The teams finishing third and fourth in their respective pools will face relegation play-offs to avoid dropping to Africa Group V.
Following successive relegations from World Group II and Africa Group III over the past two years, non-playing captain Gwinyai Tongoona is targeting an immediate return to the higher tier.

Despite the favourable draw, Zimbabwe faces a demanding campaign without long-time talisman and top-ranked singles player Benjamin Lock, who misses the tournament due to a lack of match fitness.
In his absence, the squad blends experience with youth. The team is led by seasoned campaigners Courtney Lock and Mutare-born Ronan Mtisi, while rising stars Zamani Moyo, Sean Taruberekera and Makanaka Hwata have been handed a golden opportunity to test themselves on the international stage and gain valuable experience for the future.
