BUSINESSMAN Wicknell Chivayo has given Highlanders US$300 000 towards the welfare of coach Benjani Mwaruwari and signing new players.
In addition, Chivayo has purchased a luxury team bus valued at $285 000, complete with a toilet, leather interiors, reclining seats, TV, Wi-Fi, and executive onboard facilities, aimed at enhancing travel for the squad, especially during away matches.
The gesture comes at a pivotal moment as the club seeks to rebuild its squad and revive its glory in the Premier Soccer League. Highlanders last won the league title two decades ago, and Chivayo’s investment signals renewed ambition and hope for fans eager to see Bosso back at the top.
“As a small token to the team, and to celebrate this milestone while keeping the promise to my late uncle, the former Vice- President of Zimbabwe John Landa Nkomo, who was an avid supporter of iBOSSO, I am pleased to extend to the club, through its curator Jabulani Nkomo, US$300 000 immediately,” he said.
He added: “It is my sincere hope that, with this small token, the morale of management, the technical team, and, most importantly, the players will be significantly boosted. It is also my hope and expectation that, under the patronage of Nkomo, these resources will be prudently utilised in the best interests of the club. Ultimately, I anticipate that this support will create a renewed hunger to lift the 2026 Premier Soccer League Trophy.”
The funds will cover the new head coach’s salary, settle outstanding player arrears, and facilitate fresh signings. Chivayo also offered to purchase a car of Mwaruwari’s choice.
Chivayo expressed excitement over Mwaruwari’s appointment as head coach, calling it a milestone for the club.
“Yesterday [Saturday], I was most delighted that Highlanders FC had finally engaged the renowned superstar and one of Zimbabwe’s most decorated footballers of all time, Benjani Mwaruwari, as their head coach ahead of the 2026 Premier Soccer League,” he said.

“It is high time we relied on our own football experts for the club, especially at a time when performance has not been very satisfactory. I, therefore, wish to congratulate the team, the technical management, and more importantly, Mkoma Benji, on this well-deserved appointment,” he said.
Addressing speculation about taking over the club, Chivayo dismissed such claims.
“For the avoidance of doubt, and contrary to some sentiments expressed in certain quarters, I wish to state unequivocally that I have no intention whatsoever to control or take over Highlanders Football Club. My interest goes only as far as supporting the club in fulfilment of the wishes of VP John Landa Nkomo, and in furtherance of a patriotic commitment to Zimbabwean sport . . . My role remains purely that of a supporter, driven by love for Bosso and belief in Zimbabwe’s future,” he said.
