Barca Kadoma FC clinch Division 2B title, set for promotion play-off

Barca Kadoma FC will now face Chingwere FC for a play-off match

KADOMA-BASED football side Barca Kadoma FC sent their supporters into jubilation over the weekend after beating Venice Mine FC 2-0 to secure top spot in the Mashonaland West Division 2B League in their final match of the season on Saturday.

Anesu Gondo broke the deadlock in the 26th minute with a composed finish following a well-constructed team move that split the Venice defence.

Barely five minutes later, Tinashe Kambuzuma doubled the lead with a powerful strike from inside the box.

The victory lifted Barca to 81 points, securing top spot ahead of their nearest challengers, Hurricanes FC, who finished on 79.

Barca Kadoma FC will now face Chingwere FC — champions of the Mashonaland West Division 2A league — in a promotion play-off for a place in the Northern Region Soccer League.

Chingwere, based in Chegutu, topped their group with 70 points, edging out Africhine FC, which finished on 65.

Speaking after the match, Barca Kadoma FC head coach Gift Tembo praised his players for their resilience throughout the season and said preparations for the play-off were already underway.

“We are now preparing for the play-off match, which will decide if we are going to be promoted to Division One,” Tembo said. “We just need to make a few changes and beef up the team. I believe the boys have shown they are capable, and we are going there to win.”

Club chief executive officer Matthew Maveto added that the team’s ambitions extend beyond the pitch, revealing that promotion would pave the way for infrastructural developments and negotiations with the local authority.

“With this win, we are eagerly awaiting the play-off against Chingwere FC.

“If we secure promotion, we will engage Kadoma City Council to lease Rimuka Stadium so it becomes our official home ground. We want to bring more professional football to Kadoma and give our supporters a proper home.”

Barca Kadoma FC, relatively new in the Mashonaland West Division 2B league, has been steadily climbing the football ladder.
